Singing

Why take voice lessons?

  • Do you wish that you could sing anything you wanted with ease?
  • Do you wish you had the stamina to get through a phrase without running out of breath or sing it with more power?
  • Do you want to sing without having to think your voice “will work” this time and not be in pain or hoarse after you sing?
  • Do you think you can only sing low notes as anything high is too hard?

If the answer to any of the above is a “YES”, you need to work with a teacher that can help you figure out what to do and I am here to help you!

Why take voice lessons from me?

  • What is different with voice lessons with me versus other teachers? Two simple words.... EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE
  • I have a specialized graduate degree in vocology and also a master's in voice.
  • I understand how people learn and can teach in a systemic and structured manner working on building up the voice.  No guessing about what it going on, I make sure to fully explain the “why's and how's” of  your singing.  Having an undergraduate degree in music education (I was classroom music teacher in the beginning of my career), I understand how learning works with the brain and the body.
  • I have a complete and thorough understanding of vocal health (see tab on vocal health for specifics), anatomy and vocal stylings.
  • I have specialized training in non-classical (defined as CCM) and classical singing methods.  You can get bel canto to belting with me!
  • Whole Body Singing and Understanding.  I have Level 3 Somatic Voice, Level 3 Estill, Popeil's Voiceworks, Resonant Voice training, Alexander Technique and other body modalities.
  • I understand the Music Theater scene and what it takes to be marketable.  I have been teaching voice in collegiate setting for over 15 year and worked at one of the top 3 Music Theater schools in the country per Princeton Review.  I can help you with your 16 and 32 bar cuts from my vast library of Musical Theater anthologies and repertoire   I can play your cuts and coach you how to sound authentic for the style you are singing, whether it's traditional, contemporary or pop
  • I have personally sung operas and recitals, I understand that world and the classical style of singing.
  • If you are a worship/church musician, got you covered too!  Not only have I been on numerous worship teams myself over the years, I founded and directed a successful travel choir that focused contemporary worship music. I have worked with numerous people who sing in the styles you will need for your services and completely understand the sound needed.

What will your voice lessons look like?

Voice lessons usually focus half the time Vocal Technique and the other half on Repertoire. Voice students will understand how to use their voice most effectively and with complete freedom.  Technique will focus on proper body alignment through body work such as Alexander Technique, stretches (through Yoga, etc.) and various other methods.  Breath control and vocal resonance will improve through various exercises depending on vocal needs and style.
